PGP – pretty good privacy (gpg4usb)

PGP — pretty good privacy (gpg4usb)

In this article, we tell you how to install and configure PGP encryption using the gpg4usb utility. Gpg4usb is a PGP tool that can be run using a USB drive on any operating system.

Install gpg4usb

The gpg4usb interface will be more understandable for novice users, unlike other PGP tools. Since gpg4usb works in conjunction with a portable device, installation of the program is not required. All you need to do is extract the files from the zip archive to your USB drive. To download the archive, go to and click on the “DOWNLOAD gpg4usb” button.

After clicking on the green button, a download link will appear on the same page, click on it and wait for the download to complete.

When the archive is downloaded, open it by double-clicking the mouse button. You should see a folder called “gpg4usb” in it, upload this folder to your USB drive and open it. This folder will contain files as in the photo below.

The procedure is not complicated, and even the most inexperienced user will be able to figure it out.

Generating public and private keys

In order to start using PGP, you will need to generate the public and private keys. Without these keys, you can neither encrypt your message nor decrypt someone else’s.

Go to the folder “gpg4usb” that you extracted from the archive and double-click to launch the file “start_windows.exe”. After starting, you will see a screen with the initial setup of gpg4usb.

After you go through the initial setup, proceed to the generation of keys. For your understanding how to create keys, the program has tips. Click on “Concepts of GPG” to open detailed instructions.

Following the steps described in this guide, you will come to a window in which you will need to specify data for generating a key pair (name, mail, password).

Click on the “ok” button now and your key pair will be generated.

Getting a public PGP key

Open gpg4usb, check the box against the newly created key and click on the “Export to Clipboard” button located at the top (with this click you will copy your public key and in the future you can paste it anywhere).

Getting a private PGP key

It’s a good idea to keep your private key in a safe place. There are situations when you may lose access to gpg4usb, and you will not be able to read messages that have been encrypted with the key of this account.

To get a private key, right-click on your key and click on “Show Key Details”.

From the open window you can see the details of your key. Click on the “Export Private Key” button and save the key code in a safe place. A good solution for storing it is another USB drive that you can store in a secret place.

After you have completed the steps described in this guide, you can take full advantage of PGP encryption. All major Darknet markets are asking to add PGP key to their account, as this gives you the ability to encrypt messages when communicating with suppliers, as well as establish additional protection for entering your account (2-fa).
