Las Vegas resident Patrick Sileo was arrested for trying to buy a fake UK passport, according to US Attorney’s Office in the Western District of New York.
Sileo, 62, reportedly turned to an undercover security agent in November 2019 and asked about buying a fake UK passport.
He paid 3 585 $ on a dark website and provided the agent with biographical information, a face photo, a signature, and false information for posting.
Sileo was reportedly told the agent that he was a US citizen who returned from Southeast Asia “several” months ago.
The US Attorney’s Office also reports that the defendant said that he has a US passport that expires in a week, and that the Internal Revenue Service has blocked its renewal.
In December, he told the agent where to send a fake passport to Las Vegas. He was subsequently arrested in Nevada.
Sileo was arrested for fraud with identity documents.
This charge provides a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of 250 000 $.
